Batik on paper

Batik painting has always fascinated me and I have been meaning to do it in a long time. When I came across a doable paper version, I thought P may also like it. P did have a tough time pronouncing the word and felt very important doing a ‘big people’ art project.

The principle of batik on paper is pretty much the same as on cloth. Paint resist the design you want finally and then apply paint on the whole picture.

P wanted to do Appu elephant from his story book and a scenery from our water colour box.

First P crayoned the picture. Then I crumpled the paper to create creases. Once I got a lot of them, P water coloured the whole picture. We got a lovely batik (close enough!) effect for Appu and the cranes.
